Killer Internet Radio Station

Tuesday, February 13th, 2007

Coming from UNC’s radio station – WKNC 88.1 FM in Raleigh-Durham - this is one of the best streams I’ve heard yet on the Internet.  Not some crappy lo-fi stream, these guys stream full-on 128K MP3 and – believe it or not – an even better sounding OGG stream.

The playlist rocks (if you like alternative/techno/trance), and the PSA’s are kept to a bare minimum.

Highly recommended.  Reminds me of what FSU’s college radio station USED to be back in the day.

Drinking from the 80-core firehose

Sunday, February 11th, 2007

First off, don’t get too excited – Intel has no plans on marketing the 80-core CPU they recently tested.  It was solely a technical excercise, meant to prove out some possible solutions to the issues facing multi-core memory subsystems.  If not solved these severely issues will limit the scalability of future multi-core chips.

Oh, and in case you haven’t picked this up yet, the days of high frequency computing are dead.  CPU speeds over 4GHz will only been seen in hard core overclocker rigs for the next few years.  The future obviously lies in packing a die with cores.

It’s gonna be a while before I go to Vista

Just in case you aren’t already sold on the idea of staying with XP for now…

That, coupled with all of the benchmarks that have been done recently which show Vista’s gaming performance to be slower than XP’s, pretty much ensure that I’m going to wait until JoeMojo 3.0 to be built.
